SKINDEEP Diving has been diving the wrecks in the English channel for over 45 years ! this gives us a vast amount of knowledge, second to none of the wrecks and dive sites in our area. In fact we would go as far to say that if there’s a wreck marked on the chart within 50 miles of Weymouth, we have dived it! We are now based at Portland Marina in Dorset .
Our purpose built Catamaran is licensed to carry up to 12 divers up to 60 miles offshore . It is fast and comfortable with dive lifts, flush toilets and all the latest electronics to get you to the dive sites, quickly and safely !
Portland Marina offers ample parking as well as showers and toilets available for everyone. Food & Drink are also available at the cafe/restaurant and the Gas Shack is able to cater to your cylinder fills needs for air an Nitrox.
WHY GO ANY WHERE ELSE !
The History
Ian Taylor took over the helm of Skin Deep back in 1998 from the late Andy Smith who was the founder of Skin Deep Diving. Andy started out with a small wooden boat named ‘Hunters Moon’ back in the 1970’s and was one of the first skippers to develop an effective charter service for divers as well as the dive ladder with the centre spine prior to that there were ordinary ladders.
His later boats both named Skin Deep, were a Freewood 35 and a Lochin 38 which I took over from him. Many of you will perhaps remember Andy and even perhaps went diving with him, so I figured with the all new look Skin Deep website why not run a page remembering some of the old days.
Today
My partner Andreia and myself have now taken over the Skin Deep legacy beginning of May this year. My name is Edward Gollop most of you that have been diving with us for the last years may know me as I have been working for Ian Taylor for the past 6 years.
I grew up in Weymouth and throughout my childhood and adulthood, I have always work around boats doing a diversity of jobs. Started working at a very young age for the Sailing centre near Sandsfoot beach and moved on to work for the National Sailing Academy on Portland. Throughout the years I have also travelled around the world on yacht deliveries, which was an amazing and unforgettable experience.
I have been a skipper for Skin Deep for diverse types of diving, inshore, recreational, and offshore technical diving. Skin Deep continues to keep the regular customers coming could it be for our great customer service or that we still find the virgin wrecks like the old Skin Deep days. Whatever it is we hope you keep coming back to Skin Deep and we will keep running it well into the new millennium and beyond.
